PLEASE ATTEND THE SCHOOL BOARD MEETING APR 19th AT 7PM

The School Board has promised to get the attendance policy on the agenda.  Every member of the community is supposed to be allowed to speak to the members.  I have just been informed that neither Brian nor I may address the School Board at this meeting! Janet Stockton said that Dr. Lackey said that “It is the consensus of the School Board that you not be allowed to speak”  she said that I may submit comments in writing to them.  I have been doing that with almost no response!

I have spoken at one meeting, my husband has not been allowed to speak!

Many of you have found that you have to jump through a lot of hoops to do so.  That is the main reason that I have heard numerous times that few ever get to speak to the Board.  However, look at this:

https://www.boarddocs.com/vsba/frco/Board.nsf/Public?OpenFrameSet

“Any citizen may address the Board at any regular meeting. Persons wishing to address the board should make such a request to the superintendent or his designee at least seven (7) days prior to the next regular meeting of the board.

The chairman is responsible for the orderly conduct of the meeting and shall rule on such matters as the appropriateness of the subject being presented and length of time for such presentation. No one will be allowed to make additional presentations until everyone has an opportunity to make an initial presentation.

A reasonable period of time, as determined by the School Board, will be allocated at each regular meeting for citizens to present matters of concern.”

This certainly doesn’t say anything about having to make the request in person, or that it is up to the discretion of the superintendent (or Janet Stockton). It also doesn’t say that the person must speak to the school principal first. (After all, everyone who wishes to address the board may not be a parent.)
