They Get $10,000 Per Student But Can’t Afford A Small Attendance Committee?

I have discussed the effects of the FCHS attendance policy with friends and they all shake their heads. None of us can believe how stupid it is.  Punishing kids for excused absences?? Keeping kids from succeeding just because they miss a few days? Why do we have to pay over $130,000 in salary and benefits to a superintendent that appears to have too big of an ego to listen to the hundreds that have told him the policy must be changed! We pay $4,800 to each School Board member and yet several do not respond to calls and most do not read or respond to emails! They individually claim to have no power so they give it all to the superintendent. Teachers and families hate this policy. Teachers want to reward students for their efforts.  Parents don’t want kids going to school sick or being away from home on Saturday because of Saturday Schools or having to pay $20 because they missed one extra class because of a trip to the orthodontist. We all find it extremely unfair. It is appalling that the school system gets government funding of about $10,000 per student but can’t have a small attendance committee to determine the best actions to keep kids in school and help all succeed! Surveys are almost free and yet they aren’t even willing to do that.
